Is the Literature Correct?
Through various pieces of literature, the teenager is presented as an immature individual within societal boundaries with an inflated ego, that falsifies the idea of maturity. Teenage life is full of rebellious actions and reckless decisions, which influence the way adult groups react when encountering teenage activity. The literature presents the correct theory on how teenagers present themselves within society. The period of being a teen is seen as a time of confusion and misdirection full of reckless behavior. Literature presents many underlying themes that represent the teenager, such as, facing reality, loss of innocence, infatuation, and the striving to become an individual. These novels, short stories, and plays all illustrate the fact that teenagers will face these common themes, and they will make poor decisions along their journey through adolescence. However, the literature also says that facing these difficult situations will allow the teen to gain experience, a necessary topic to achieve maturity, and ultimately adulthood. Therefore, these themes are correct in representing the teenager, as they touch on every aspect that teenagers will endure on their journey.
