Teenagers' Nature to Hide from Reality, Presented in Literature
Reality is the natural world, a place where teenagers on the path to maturity are often met with harsh criticisms by society. Living in reality and dealing with life's situations requires maturity, that teenagers simply lack. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary reality is “the true situation that exists: the real situation” (Merriam Webster). In literature, the teenager is displayed as an immature person who hides from reality in order to protect themselves from the situations created by life. The teenage person, is unable to accept reality as fact and must create fictional situations in order to cope with the hardships of life. According to "What is Reality" by Upali Sramon childhood reality is presented as a fantasy world, with the beautiful sky, and the endless unexplored land. When the teenage period of life arrives, reality is morphed into a dark place of evil, stress, pain, but also happiness, love, and affection (Academia). Therefore, teens act out against such stresses in reality by lying to themselves and by creating a false truth in order to escape the harsh reality.
