How is the concept of teenage love presented in literature?
Various pieces of literature, including the Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, “Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare, “A&P” by John Updike, and "Antigone" by Sophocles demonstrate that teenagers are unable to experience true love due to their immaturity and irresponsibility. Teenagers often experience what they think is true love, yet they are unable to differentiate infatuation from real love and end up making foolish decisions because they listen to their hearts and not their minds. In the above literary works, teenagers make decisions based on love that they will ultimately end up regretting later in life when they have a clear head.
